4 min read

Anxiety can feel like a heavy weight pressing down on your chest. It sneaks into your thoughts, making even simple moments feel overwhelming. If you’ve ever wished for a gentle, natural way to ease that tension, you’re not alone. I’ve found that Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT, offer a comforting path to relief. It’s a simple tapping method that helps calm your mind and body, allowing you to reconnect with your inner peace.

Let’s explore how EFT can support you in releasing anxiety and nurturing your emotional well-being.

Discovering EFT for Anxiety Benefits

EFT is a tapping technique that combines gentle physical touch with mindful focus on your feelings. By tapping on specific points on your face and body, you can help your nervous system relax. This process encourages your body to release stress and anxiety naturally.

Here’s why EFT is so powerful for anxiety:

  • It’s easy to learn and practice anywhere. You don’t need special equipment or a therapist present.

  • It works on the body’s energy system. Tapping helps balance your energy, which can reduce emotional distress.

  • It encourages self-awareness. As you tap, you become more in tune with your feelings, which helps you process them gently.

  • It’s safe and non-invasive. There’s no medication or complicated procedures involved.

For example, when I feel my heart racing or my thoughts spiraling, I start tapping on the side of my hand while saying, “Even though I feel this anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself.” This simple phrase, combined with tapping, helps me feel grounded and less overwhelmed.

How to Practice EFT for Anxiety Relief

You can try EFT anytime you feel anxious or stressed. Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started:

  1. Identify the feeling. Notice where the anxiety shows up in your body. Is it tightness in your chest? A knot in your stomach?

  2. Rate your anxiety. On a scale from 0 to 10, how intense does it feel right now?

  3. Create a setup statement. This is a phrase that acknowledges your anxiety but also affirms self-acceptance. For example: “Even though I feel this anxiety, I accept myself and how I feel.”

  4. Tap on the karate chop point. This is the side of your hand, below your pinky finger. Repeat your setup statement three times while tapping.

  5. Tap through the points. Use your fingertips to tap about 5-7 times on each of these points while repeating a reminder phrase like “this anxiety”:

  6. Top of the head

  7. Eyebrow (inner edge)

  8. Side of the eye

  9. Under the eye

  10. Under the nose

  11. Chin

  12. Collarbone

  13. Under the arm

  14. Take a deep breath. After one round, pause and breathe deeply.

  15. Check your anxiety level again. Notice if it has decreased. Repeat the tapping sequence if needed.

You might find that after a few rounds, your anxiety feels lighter or more manageable. The key is to be gentle with yourself and allow the process to unfold naturally.

Why should tapping be avoided?

While EFT is generally safe and gentle, there are a few situations where tapping might not be the best choice:

  • Severe trauma or PTSD: If you’re dealing with intense trauma, tapping might bring up strong emotions that feel overwhelming without professional support.

  • Physical injuries: Avoid tapping on areas that are bruised, broken, or otherwise injured.

  • Extreme emotional distress: If you feel like you might harm yourself or others, seek immediate help from a mental health professional rather than relying solely on EFT.

  • Discomfort with touch: Some people may find tapping uncomfortable or triggering. It’s okay to modify the technique or focus on breathing instead. Connecting with a certified EFT Practitioner can support you in moving forward.

If you’re unsure, it’s always a good idea to consult with a trauma-aware energy healing practitioner or therapist who understands EFT and can guide you safely. At Internal Shifts this is exactly what I help people do.

Integrating EFT with Your Daily Routine

One of the beautiful things about EFT is how easily it fits into your life. You can use it as a quick reset during a busy day or as part of a calming evening ritual. Here are some ideas to help you make tapping a regular practice:

  • Morning check-in: Start your day by tapping on any worries or stress you feel about the day ahead.

  • Before challenging moments: Use EFT before a difficult conversation or event to calm your nerves.

  • Evening unwind: Tap gently to release the tension you’ve carried throughout the day.

  • Combine with mindfulness: Pair tapping with deep breathing or meditation to deepen your relaxation.

  • Keep a journal: Write down your feelings before and after tapping to track your progress and insights.

Remember, the goal isn’t to eliminate all anxiety instantly but to create space for healing and self-compassion.

Embracing Healing Through EFT and Energy Work

EFT is part of a broader world of healing that recognizes the connection between our emotions and energy. When you tap, you’re gently shifting the energy flow in your body, helping to clear blockages that contribute to anxiety.

If you’re curious, exploring eft and energy healing can open new doors to understanding your emotional landscape. These practices invite you to listen deeply to your body and emotions, fostering a sense of safety and empowerment.

By embracing these tools, you’re not just managing anxiety—you’re nurturing your whole self. You’re giving yourself permission to heal, grow, and reconnect with your inner strength.

Taking the First Step Toward Emotional Freedom

Starting with EFT might feel a little strange at first, but with patience and kindness, it can become a trusted companion on your journey. You don’t have to face anxiety alone or rely on quick fixes. This gentle tapping method offers a way to gently release what no longer serves you.

If you ever feel stuck, remember that support is available. Whether through a community, a practitioner, or simply your own commitment to self-care, you can find your way back to calm.

I encourage you to try tapping today. Notice how your body responds. Allow yourself the grace to feel whatever comes up. With each tap, you’re unlocking a little more peace. If your unsure about how to begin I would be honoured to help you get started on your personal journey.

You deserve that.

Thank you for taking this time for yourself. May your journey with EFT bring you comfort, clarity, and calm.
